Q&A: Pierogis, Thanksgiving turkeys
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Where can I get some pierogis for National Pierogi Day on Saturday?
Kristen: In Charlotte, the only place I know of is The Degenerate. Theirs are stuffed with potato, cheddar cheese, and bacon. You could head down to Pineville’s Zygma Polish Deli, a European grocer and deli, which sells a wide assortment of frozen pierogi. I’ve never tried this place, but European Market in Indian Trail, near the State Line liquor store, sells pierogis by preorder.
Q: I was too late last year in ordering our Thanksgiving turkeys. When should I be looking to order this year?
Kristen: Soon! We’ll be publishing a guide to locally raised turkeys in the coming days. Stay tuned, and be ready to order ASAP. Turkeys are expensive to raise and process, so fewer and fewer farmers are doing so. If you want to get one, be ready to order before Halloween.
