Q&A: Picnics to go and rain-proof patios
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Do you know of anywhere selling picnic baskets ready to go enjoy?
Kristen: It depends on what you’re looking for in your picnic! 300 East is serving a chicken biscuit picnic box that serves two people and includes fried chicken, biscuits, and sides, as well as two cans of wine. You can find delicious cheese plates at The Culture Shop, Orrman’s Cheese Shop, Mere’s, and Copain. If it’s too hot for cheese, try Earl’s Grocery, which sells items like kebabs and sandwiches ready to go. You could order sandwiches and snacks online from Reid’s Fine Foods and pick your order up en route to your picnic location.
Q: Where is there a good patio that is rain-proof for these random afternoon showers?
Kristen: The Crunkleton’s recent patio renovation is really nice, with fans and heaters as well as a permanent covering. You could also head to The Fig Tree’s upper porch, which is tucked against the side of the historic home. If you’re looking for something more casual, try The Waterman, which comes with beautiful skyline views. Orto, the newest restaurant from Paul Verica of The Stanley, also has a lot of covered patio space in NoDa.
