Q&A: Patios, cocktails, and weekend events
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: You had great suggestions last time. Here’s our scenario for tomorrow: 2 couples, one in Ballantine and us in SouthPark. Somewhere that serves cocktails in addition to beer and wine; has patio; and ideally takes reservations. Any suggestions? We are all pretty open cuisine-wise.
Kristen: I’m so glad to hear that! I’d suggest Aqua e Vino (more wine heavy but delicious), Dogwood, Peppervine, or Bar Marcel. It’s definitely been harder to get reservations these days, but you should be okay with the holiday weekend being slower than normal.
Q: Where did Henry Schmulling [from Merchant + Trade] go? I thought I saw his face at an event for Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo.
Kristen: He is working on several projects right now, including with Nuvole, the Giddy Goat in Plaza Midwood, and Pepperbox Doughnuts. Stay tuned for more details on what he’s up to!
Q: Any can’t-miss events going on this weekend?
Kristen: There are a handful of events going on, but with the Fourth, not as many of your traditional dinner events. Optimist Hall is doing a Fourth of July event with fireworks on Saturday night, and Billy Sunday is hosting a cornhole tournament on Sunday. The Whitewater Center is also celebrating all weekend long, with live music, drinks, and fireworks.
