Q&A: Old-school breakfast, dirty martinis
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: What’s a good old-school breakfast diner in or near South End?
Kristen: There’s not much immediately in South End, since rent is getting so high breakfast won’t cover it. For classic diners, Midnight Diner is now in the heart of Uptown. The Original Pancake House in Midtown is pretty close if you hop on 277, has easy parking, and might be just what you’re looking for. Other noteworthy diners are Landmark Diner and Mattie’s Diner.
Q: Who has the best dirty vodka martini?
Kristen: To me, a dirty martini gives a steakhouse vibe. I think Eddie V’s does a good job. If you’re looking for something more cosmopolitan, head to Rosemont. If you find yourself north of town, Peninsula Prime Seafood & Steakhouse in Cornelius knows how to properly bathe olives as well. You can also make a better dirty martini at home with tips from local bartenders.
