Q&A: Caviar and mocktails
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Caviar service at The Bar at Supperland. TM Petaccia/UP
Q: I recently had my first caviar experience and now I’m craving it. Who has good caviar service?
Tom: Hope you have a healthy wallet, but I’m with you. I just love those briny eggs. My first stop would be The Bar at Supperland. Along with outstanding cocktails, they offer caviar service Southern style with corn blinis and egg salad, along with the traditional crème fraîche and chives. Steak 48 in SouthPark offers impressive caviar service as does Eddie V’s Uptown. Up for some caviar micro-dosing? The Punch Room is currently offering caviar bumps. Bar a Vins in NoDa has a fun and funky caviar service that includes potato chips. If you hurry, you might be able to snag one of the few seats remaining for this Saturday’s caviar, champagne, and sake tasting at the grand opening of Prime Fish Cellar in Cotswold. The event is listed on our UP calendar. Finally, you can caviar at home by ordering directly from North Carolina’s own Marshallberg Farm. This is beautfully and sustainably raised sturgeon of extremely high quality (this is the caviar you’ll get at Supperland).
Q: I’m going out tomorrow for my birthday and seeking out places to go for nonalcoholic mocktails before dinner. We are headed uptown (Fin & Fino where I know BK and the Clams can do this) and I can’t seem to think of many options. Help?
Tom: First, Happy Birthday! This is an increasingly popular question. Just about every notable restaurant has some worthwile NA cocktail offerings these days. Since, you’ll be Uptown, I would highly recommend heading over to The Punch Room at the Ritz-Carlton, where Kel Minton has dedicated significant space to non-alcoholic offerings. Just south of Uptown in Wilmore, Amanda Britton has some impressive mocktails to offer you. In South End, check out Chapter 6 and Yunta. In NoDa, both Haberdish and Ever Andalo got you covered. In Plaza Midwood, Larry Suggs at Humbug and Justin Hazelton at Lorem Ipsum have your NA back.
