Q&A: Local whiskey, now in season
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I want to bring a client a bottle of North Carolina whiskey. What’s the best one around?
UP: Turning Point — from Southern Artisan Spirits of Cardinal gin in Kings Mountain — is a great choice, even though it’s a young bourbon. Conviction, from Southern Grace Distillery, has gotten national recognition. Around the holidays, we put together a list of the spirits we would gift during the holiday season. You can find that here!
Q: Your newsletter today mentioned year-round farmers’ markets. Is anything good available right now?
UP: Sure, there are lots of winter things! Our favorite purchases right now are the beautiful carrots being harvested. You can also find collards, of course, as well as heartier greens such as kale. There are still some delicious apples to be had, too, and many other things! Trust me, you’ll find plenty at the markets. A great resource is the North Carolina Department of Agriculture’s seasonality chart.
Q: I totally missed tickets for The Goodyear House event! Ugh. What’s next?
UP: We have something in the works for late February or early March that will be an Unpretentious Preview, but different than the ones we’ve done in the past. Stay tuned!
