Q&A: Laotian food, Price’s closing
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: I’m bummed to hear Hibiscus closed. Where else can I find Laotian food in town?
Kristen: Same, and there are very few places that we’re aware of. JP Food to Go is one of the most popular destinations for Laotian cuisine, and though it’s a food truck, it is consistently parked in front of V&K Asian Market on Little Rock Road. You can preorder via text for pickup at the truck between noon to 5 p.m. See the menu on JP Food to Go’s Facebook page. Another place to keep an eye on is chef Michael Chanthavong’s upcoming food truck, which has seen some serious delays but should be up and running soon.
Q: Thoughts on Price’s closing?
Kristen: I’m sad, for sure. Pre-baby, we’d host summer beer Olympics and play a bunch of drinking games. We’d keep the grill on low and throw a heap of Price’s on there to munch on while we chugged Labatt Blue Light. It was only a matter of time, though, before it happened — with food and labor costs going up there was only so long you could justify selling fried chicken instead of selling when the property is worth that much money. If you want to get there, go fast — I can’t imagine they have much food left after tonight’s rush.
