Q&A: Jon G’s with a kid, patios with fans
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: I’m thinking about bringing my son to Jon G’s for some good food and to get out of the house on Saturday. How early do you think we need to get there?
Kristen: They suggest you arrive by 8 a.m. to ensure what you want isn’t sold out. That said, you could probably sneak in around 10 a.m. if you’re not seeking a specific plate. Jon G’s tries to make the wait a fun experience, with beer, games, and a tailgate vibe, but with a young kid in this heat, I can’t imagine it would be much fun. You could hit up a farmers’ market then have lunch at Sweet Lew’s, or check out kayaking and pancakes at Anne Springs Close Greenway.
Q: What’s going on in the Nova’s Bakery space? Seems like they’ve been doing a lot of work there.
Kristen: Do you mean the space behind the old bakery, which was where their wholesale operations were? I’m not sure — we’ll investigate†! I hadn’t noticed. The old bakery itself is now a Marble Slab Creamery.
Q: I love to eat outside, but it’s way too hot to do so without fans. Which patios have fans?
Kristen: Same! They are so necessary to keep the flies away this time of year, too. Try booking a table at The Crunkleton, 300 East, Reid’s Fine Foods in SouthPark, The Waterman, or on the veranda at The Fig Tree.
