Q&A: Jon G’s Barbecue and great chili

Each week, we answer reader questions

Q: Reading that Sweet Lew’s is your favorite barbecue in Charlotte led me to wonder if you tried Jon G’s and how it compared? It’s technically Peachland and the hours are tricky. I haven’t tried it yet so I’m very curious. It looks pretty awesome.
Kristen: I haven’t been out there either, but our photographer Peter Taylor had this to offer: “I would say they are different in what they offer. Jon G’s is more Texas style. Both are excellent and one you don’t need to wait in line for (meaning Sweet Lew’s).” There are often Jon G’s pop-ups in town, which make it easier to find! There was one at Salud on Wednesday night. You can keep track of the pop-ups on Jon G’s Facebook events.

Q: Where can I get some good chili in town?
Kristen: I’d suggest heading to Charlotte long-timer Lupie’s. Another great option is Roasting Company on Montford, as the Plaza Midwood location is closed. If you like your chili on a burger, check out Chubz, one of our favorite burger spots.
