Q&A: How to replace Dairy Queen

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Ice cream from Two Scoops’ original location in Plaza Midwood. Kristen Wile/UP

Q: Where should we get ice cream in Plaza Midwood now that Dairy Queen is closed?!
    UP:
I’m a big fan of Two Scoops. Their papi crunch ice cream (made with Cap’n Crunch Berries) is fantastic. I’m amazed by how the cereal stays so crunchy. Dish and Letty’s both have some delicious, old-school shakes. And I’m going to count Cook-Out as semi-local since it started in Greensboro — good luck picking a flavor among their nearly 50 “fancy shake” flavors.

Q: Now that Thanksgiving is our next holiday, when should I plan on getting my turkey?
UP: Now! Since farmers can’t just magically have the right amount of turkeys each Thanksgiving, most require you to pre-order them and put a down payment on them. We ordered ours from Sharon Hill Farm weeks ago! Ask the poultry vendor at your preferred farmers’ market what their policy is. If you don’t have one, we’ll be putting together a list soon on where to get locally raised turkeys.

Q: Do you know what the plans are for the Dairy Queen space in Plaza Midwood?
UP: I don’t, but I’ll start doing some digging to see what I can find. Know something I don’t? E-mail me—Kristen Wile
