Q&A: Garlic sausage and casual near NoDa
Each week, we answer reader questions and share recommendations

Q: Looking for a place less expensive than Crunkleton for last minute dinner with another couple. Any recommendations? Any food genre welcome. Preferable around NoDa or Plaza Midwood, and bourbon not required but is a plus.
UP: If you’re looking for killer drinks on the level of Crunkleton, check out Haberdish. Colleen Hughes has a great beverage program, and also some barrel picks of tequila and bourbon. The Goodyear House, also in NoDa, has a great vibe, good food, and a fun cocktail list, though may not have the bourbon selection you’re looking for. KiKi in Plaza Midwood just made its menu a bit more casual, but we haven’t been able to check it out yet. We can vouch for Kel Minton’s bar program, though. Don’t forget to use our restaurant finder, too, in case something sticks out to you!
Q: I’m looking for garlic sausage to use in a homemade cassoulet. Where can I get some?
UP: We asked Patrick Garrivier, who was born in Provence and runs Patrick’s Gourmet, a home-delivery meal service. He suggested online retailer D’Artagnan, as well as something better: order them from him. He makes his own to use in Patrick’s Gourmet meals. Reach him here.
Q: We are going try to go out Saturday but aren’t comfortable sitting inside. Any recommendation on a place we should order take-out dinner from?
UP: Check out Plaza Midwood’s Thomas Avenue StrEATery! You can have food delivered from any restaurant in town, but I’d suggest ordering a bottle of wine and a cheese plate from The Bohemian as an appetizer, then chicken from Coaltrane’s, pizza from Pure Pizza, comfort food from Dish, or seafood from N.C. Red. There’s a drop-off point for delivery, too, if you’d rather order from another neighborhood.
