Q&A: Dinner for 10, strawberry desserts

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Any recommendations for a place to host a dinner for 10 people with a semi private space but not a private space I have to pay for? Can be very bougie (spending work money), just need to be able to have decent conversation. Probably looking more towards South Charlotte/South Park area.
Kristen:
There are several restaurants that are broken up to have either large tables or separated dining spaces. I’d check out Napa on Providence; the menu is varied and dependable and the wine selection is great. Oak Steakhouse has a space that would work well, too. If Uptown is an option, I highly recommend the terrace at Albertine.

300 East pastry chef Alexa Druhan’s take on strawberry shortcake. Kristen Wile/UP

Q: What’s the best place to get a strawberry dessert now that the berries are in season?
Kristen: I just had the shortcake from 300 East, and I highly recommend it! The addition of poppy seeds as a nice savory note to the dish, while mascarpone and strawberry sorbet add to the levels of flavor and texture. The legacy of incredible desserts lives on here with pastry chef Lex Druhan in the kitchen, no matter the season.
