Q&A: Cocktails and the StrEATs Cookbook

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Any update on when The Penguin will open in Dilworth?
Kristen: I don’t have one for you, but will look into it. Stay tuned!

Q: When will the Publix break ground at Carmel Commons? (from 4/14)
Kristen: A representative from Publix shared, “I don’t have an update to share as of yet. Happy to keep you in the loop once I hear from the developer.”

Q: Is there a way to buy a recipe book from the event last week?
Kristen: Yes! That’s a great question. We’re planning on selling the remaining cookbooks from the Charlotte StrEATs Festival for $20 each, but are still figuring out the logistics of that. Stay tuned — we’ll share more details soon. For those who haven’t seen them, we put together a cookbook featuring recipes from each of the restaurants that participated in the Charlotte StrEATs Festival tasting.

Q: What’s the best cocktail spot(s) for cocktails no one’s heard about?
Kristen: We share our secrets with y’all, but here are a few that I feel are underrated. Winter Voss returned to Dogwood over the winter, and she’s a mixologist that will be sure to get more attention over the coming years. I think The Artisan’s Palate does a great job with their cocktail program, which is often overlooked in favor of wine and tapas. Also, Jon and I had some fantastic drinks at The Stanley recently. Lastly, Bob Peters consulted on the bar program at Yunta to great results.
