Q&A: Beignets and The Garbage Can
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Beignets from The Fig Tree in Elizabeth. Kristen Wile/UP
Q: Where are those beignets from and where can I get good ones?
Kristen: The photo we used on the Instagram callout for Concierge Thursday shows the beignets Café Monte! If you’re looking for some other options, I’ve really enjoyed the ones at 300 East, Boudreaux’s, and The Fig Tree very much as well.
Q: How are you?
Kristen: Fully vaccinated, so that’s pretty great! I’m ready to be dining out more regularly again, thankful that UP has made it through the pandemic, and grateful to our readers for making that happen. Thanks for asking!
Q: Garbage Can’s Trash Plates look great. What can we expect from the restaurant?
Kristen: What the Fries isn’t the only food truck going brick-and-mortar. The Garbage Truck, a food truck known for its Rochester-inspired garbage plates, is also going stationary with a restaurant called The Garbage Can. They will host a grand opening at the West Charlotte restaurant this week. As well as the signature garbage plates, which are macaroni salad and/or fries topped with hotdogs, patties, or chicken and toppings like raw onions, ketchup, meat sauce, the restaurant will serve a crispy chicken sandwich, wraps, burgers, and more. The address is 1540 West Boulevard.
