Q&A: Barbecue sauce by the bottle and Supperland’s hype
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Is Supperland worth the hype?
Kristen: Yes. Justin and I both agree the entire experience is among the best in Charlotte. The food is consistently good, the service incredible, and the beverage program is top-notch. It’s worth every penny. No reservation? Show up close to opening and you’ll be good to go. Every last detail was thought of in this restaurant, which lets guests enjoy a nearly flawless service each time.
Q: What’s the best restaurant week menu?
Kristen: I’ve always had fantastic Queen’s Feast experiences at Sea Level in Uptown. This year’s menu looks to be no exception. La Belle Helene has returned, and their menu is impressive, with options from steak frites to trout almondine. If you’re looking for dependable, I’d suggest selecting places that are used to high volume service — places that often host special events, like BLT Steak or Fahrenheit.
Q: Looking for local places that offer their barbecue and hot sauces to purchase. Any suggestions?
Kristen: Sure thing! I always keep the chicken sauce and pork sauce from Sweet Lew’s on hand. I use the pork sauce, which is vinegar-based, for marinated veggies, too. The chicken sauce is an Alabama white sauce, and you can also pick up a mustard-based brisket sauce and classic barbecue sauce labeled as rib sauce. Midwood Smokehouse has its own line of barbecue sauces, as well. I don’t use hot sauce, but there’s a selection of North Carolina sauces at The Culture Shop in Belmont, though they’re not from restaurants. If you’re looking for spice rubs, The Hot Box and Jimmy Pearls sell solid blends.
Q: Any more news on Para?
Kristen: They’re looking to open around the start of the school year. We’re hoping to do an Unpretentious Preview there, so stay tuned! You can also keep an eye on Alex Verica’s Instagram account; he posted a photo from menu testing that looked quite delicious.
