Q&A: After dinner spots, mystery restaurant, nice ice
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: What is the best place for coffee, dessert, or after dinner drink?
Tom: Wow! So many ways to answer this question. If you are not already there for dinner, 300 East continues to set the tone for the city’s best desserts – now under the guidance of pastry chef Lex Druhan. Idlewild in NoDa, Elsewhere in South End, and the Supperland bar out-building in Plaza Midwood are are great spots for after dinner cocktails – and again if you are not already there for dinner, Dot Dot Dot offers beautiful cocktails with that cool speakeasy vibe. Coffee? Well, that time of day, best to head home and brew your own – but stop at Villani’s Bakery along the way (they are open until 10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday) and pick up a tiramisu for your late dessert, and an almond croissant for the morning.
Q: Any idea what new restaurant is coming to the corner of West Third and Church?
Tom: To be honest, this is news to us, but we’re on the case now. We’ll drop a line in our newsletter or publish details as soon as we get some definitive answers.
Q: Is there a place I can buy those beautiful clear ice cubes I see at all the top-notch bars around town?
Tom: You have two choices. The Ice Trade in South End offers a range of sizes and shapes. Artisan Ice Sculptures in Concord also offers cocktail ice in addition to its impressive ice sculpture and ice luge products.
