Q&A: Affordable dining options, upcoming UP events
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Reaching out for a recommendation on where to take my mom. She loves fun places but is a depression-era child and can not fathom paying uber high prices.
Kristen: This is a great question! If she likes dessert, definitely head to 300 East! El Puro would be a great place to go for live music and fun. Southern Pecan in SouthPark is really reliable and their prices and portions are very reasonable. For breakfast and lunch dates, I think Community Matters Café has a delicious, affordable menu. If she loves a good deal, Calle Sol does a lunch special that’s $9 on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Q: I loved the Meat & Potatoes dinner. When is the next UP dining event?
Kristen: Thanks! It was quite a night, wasn’t it?! Up next is the Charlotte StrEATs Festival, a part of Charlotte Shout!, and five events leading up to it. Here’s a schedule:
- April 2: Non-alcoholic cocktail class at Merchant and Trade
- April 3: Explore the science of fresh pasta with Mano Bella
- April 10: Wine and cheese pairing class with Assorted Table and Orrman’s
- April 11: Charlotte wine then and now tasting at Cicchetti
- April 13: Build your own herb garden with The Patio Farmer
- April 15: The Charlotte StrEATs Festival Tasting Tour
- April 16: The Charlotte StrEATs Festival
Get tickets and more information on these events here. I’ll be taking maternity leave in May, but we’ll be back a few Meet the Chef dinners in the latter half of the year, starting in July.
