Prosecco bar Bev opening soon in Plaza Midwood
The owner of Moxie Mercantile will open a Proseccheria out of an airstream next to the store

On a recent trip to Italy, Michelle Castelloe toured through the Prosecco wine region and noticed the popularity of small cafés that serve only the region’s sparkling wines. She returned to her Plaza Midwood shop Moxie Mercantile inspired to open a Proseccheria of her own, making use of the outdoor space next to the store.
Castelloe upfitted an airstream to be a full bar called Bev, and will serve half a dozen Proseccos as well as Prosecco cocktails, Italian beer, and Italian non-alcoholic options when it opens later this month. Four of the Proseccos will be available by the glass.
“You go to a taqueria, you don’t ask for Italian food; you ask for tacos,” Castelloe. “It is strictly a Proseccheria — I will offer one Italian beer, and then Prosecco-based cocktails.”

Named after Castelloe’s godmother, Bev, the bar will serve customers on a string light-lit patio with bistro tables and chairs. A second airstream is in the works, and will offer indoor seating adjacent to the existing bar airstream.
Because of the Plaza Midwood Social District, guests can purchase a drink and shop Moxie Mercantile until the shop closes at 6 p.m. The bar will begin service at 2 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and noon on weekends, weather permitting. Bev will debut as part of Moxie Mercantile’s 10-year anniversary celebration on Saturday, Nov. 15 before hosting its own grand opening later in November. Castelloe hopes to be a destination for folks to grab a drink before dinner or a late afternoon cocktail. Guests can also bring food into the space.
While she hasn’t yet determined whether she will partner with another business for more robust food offerings, Bev will serve complimentary crostinis made by Babe & Butcher as well as Italian potato chips to honor the tradition of serving savory bites with a glass of wine.
“It’s just being really true and authentic — hardcore focusing on one thing and doing it really well as opposed to trying to be a bar for everyone,” she says.
