October 2024 Charlotte craft beer releases

Autumn seasonals in tandem with Pouring for Neighbors relief efforts

By Brian Beauchemin

Although our local breweries continue to operate and bring Charlotteans new beers, our hearts, minds, and prayers are with the people suffering from the ravage of Hurricane Helene. As we know, western North Carolina is in shambles and it will take a long time to recover — whatever that will look like. There are many ways we can assist with the recovery efforts — and one of the things we can do as consumers is participate in Pouring for Neighbors

The North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild has started this initiative to “rally the craft beer community to support WNC breweries.” Through their efforts, breweries nationwide are designating a beer in their taproom and at least one dollar per pint sold will be donated to the NC Disaster Relief Fund, which supports nonprofits providing essentials like food, water, and emergency relief. Whether you’re drinking locally or in another state, look for the breweries participating in this campaign (listed in the above link) and pay them a visit to help support our North Carolina craft beer market.

Also taking place this month is Charlotte Craft Beer Week, which takes place Oct. 18-27 and brings special events and offerings to breweries across the city.

Below are this month’s releases and unless otherwise stated, the beers are already available in local taprooms or supporting establishments.

Cabarrus Brewing

Made for the inner child in every adult, Chocolate Milk Stout is a milk stout brewed with one-and-a-half pounds of cacao nibs per barrel. The 5% ABV stout boasts flavors and aromas of dark chocolate, tiramisu, and hot chocolate with a sweet finish. The beer releases Oct. 14 with a small portion of it available on nitro.

NoDa Brewing

Sticky When Wet is the brewery’s annual wet hopped IPA. Wet hop beers feature freshly picked hops added to the beers versus traditional beers, where the hops have been dried beforehand. Fresh Citra and Mosaic hops give the 6.3% ABV IPA an assertive bitterness balanced with bright aromas and flavors of peach and grapefruit.

A 10% ABV barleywine brewed with dates, Date with Destiny is a collaboration with Robert Moreland from Brew and Feed for this year’s Durham Blacktoberfest. The beer showcases strong dark fruit and caramel notes. Releasing Oct. 11 in the brewery’s taproom and Oct. 12 at the Durham Blacktoberfest Beer Festival.

Thiol-Ice is a 6.8% ABV cold IPA brewed with pilsner and wheat malt, fermented on Lunar Crush yeast, and then double dry-hopped with Galaxy, Motueka, and Nectaron hops. The brew is crisp, clear, and hop-forward with grapefruit and passionfruit notes. Although it releases Oct. 18, it is also one of the 13 featured beers for the brewery’s 13-year anniversary party on Oct. 26.

We can’t have October without some sort of pumpkin beer, so mark your calendars for Oct. 25 when Tis The Season?? starts pouring. This pumpkin coffee stout features pumpkin puree, a mix of dark, roasted, and caramelized malts, and Enderly Coffee beans. This 6.1% ABV brew will also be featured at the anniversary party.

Triple C Brewing

Tap Tap C is a 5.7% ABV West Coast pilsner. This hoppy pilsner is brewed with a malt bill of a traditional German pilsner, fermented cold and clean, and then dry-hopped with American hops of a traditional West Coast IPA. Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado and, Hallertau Blanc give the crisp lager its hoppy punch.

Sweet Cream is a vanilla coffee porter brewed with coffee, vanilla, and lactose. The 5.1% ABV robust porter provides a soft and creamy mouthfeel with vanilla and coffee notes. The dark and a bit sweet brew releases Oct. 19.

Releasing Oct. 25 for the brewery’s annual Biketoberfest is a yet-to-be-named hazy  IPA. The draft-only beer is juicy, sessionable, and tropical. A refreshing and thirst-quenching IPA ideal for post bike rides – whether on the roads or in nature enjoying the fall foliage.

Wooden Robot Brewery

Cinnamon Roll Good Morning Vietnam is the brewery’s seasonal version of Good Morning Vietnam. The ABV 5.0% spiced coffee blonde ale was brewed with locally roasted Ethiopian coffee from Enderly Coffee Roasters and rich Madagascar vanilla beans. The beer receives an added kick of cinnamon and double the vanilla of their standard Good Morning Vietnam.

Positronic Mind is the brewery’s series of single-hopped golden sour ales. The beer was fermented in their oak foeder with the house mixed-culture yeast and then generously dry-hopped with Talus hops. The ABV 6.0% brew is a funky combination of hoppy, sour, and fruity.
