Not Just Coffee South End adding a kitchen
The Atherton space will get bigger post-construction

Earlier this week, we reported that the South End Market at Atherton was getting moved outside so construction could begin in the market’s former space. The news had us wondering, what’s happening with Not Just Coffee? The rapidly growing coffee shop’s South End location won’t be moving, and will actually get a little more space once construction is complete.
The brick walls surrounding the coffee shop’s space are protected, meaning the construction will have to work around formerly open spaces that have been filled in with drywall. Owner James Yoder says a covered doorway along the atrium wall will be uncovered to make room for a small kitchen, and a large window opened up to create additional seating.
“I always think about where I would want to sit, and create interesting pockets, because the space is so beautiful and it’s pretty unique too,” he says.
The overall addition will be about 500 to 600 square feet. The menu won’t be as robust as the Dilworth location of Not Just Coffee, but will serve a menu of eight or so items, including several toasts.
Yoder says the opening should follow the rest of construction, and is hopeful that the kitchen will be operational in July or August. Other than some extra noise, Yoder expects the only construction impacts to be a few days when he has to close for electrical and plumbing connections to be completed.
“I’m excited about what we’re doing over there,” he says. “It’s always a big gamble, but I’m really interested to see what the new development does in South End.” —Kristen Wile
