N.C. Red, the Plaza Midwood restaurant from Bruce Moffett, will open for lunch service beginning on Jan. 27. Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 2 p.m., with the restaurant closing in the afternoon and reopening for dinner service at 5:30 p.m.
Executive chef Drew Dodd says he is finalizing the lunch menu, but there will be several lunch-exclusive items. There will be a clam strip sandwich, as well as fried chicken sandwiches. On Wednesday nights, N.C. Red serves a burger in tribute to The Penguin, and the burger might become a permanent part of the lunch menu.
The lobster rolls and fried chicken, staples of the New England-meets-North Carolina menu, will both be available. However, you’ll likely see more traditional meat-and-three plates instead of shared plate options, as lunch diners are less likely to want to share with their companions. The restaurant has also adjusted its dinner menu to be more conducive to diners who don’t want to share.
“We’ve definitely tried to take some feedback from the neighborhood,” Dodd says. “We do get a lot of single people that come in or people that may not want to share.”
