    Michael Jordan launches tequila label

The Hornets owner is teaming up with other NBA owners

Michael Jordan and four other NBA owners are getting into the liquor market. Jordan, Jeanie Buss, Wes Edens, Emilia Fazzalari, and Wyc Grousbeck launched Cincoro Tequila this fall. The name comes from the Spanish words for five and gold — five because there are five partners, and gold to indicate how the brand wishes to be seen in the industry.

There are four expressions of Cincoro: blanco, reposado, añejo, and extra añejo. All are made with Weber Blue agave grown in Jalisco, Mexico.

Fittingly, the label’s branding and the design for the bottle were done by Mark Smith of Nike. The bottle is five-sided, another homage to the five founding partners.

Not surprisingly, the bottle is not yet available in North Carolina. It’s currently being distributed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. According to a representative for the tequila, the company is hoping their products will hit shelves here in North Carolina, Jordan’s current home state, next year.

The tequilas range from $70 for the blanco to a hefty $1,600 for the extra añejo, which is aged between 40 and 44 months. —Kristen Wile
