Joe, Katy Kindred leading Italian excursion
The owners of Kindred and Hello, Sailor are hosting a food-focused getaway
Joe and Katy Kindred have become regional tastemakers with their eponymous restaurant in downtown Davidson and their elevated take on fried seafood with Hello, Sailor on Lake Norman. Now they are bringing their culinary talent and love for travel to the sun-dappled hill towns of the Amalfi coast and the ancient vineyards of Campania. The price for the trip is $5,750 per person.
The Kindreds and their guests will be spending 7 days and 6 nights drinking and eating their way through Naples, Pompeii, Positano, and Salerno June 6th through June 12th of next year. The trip marks the Kindreds’ first foray into the realm of luxury-guided travel.
The grand tour begins in Naples, the birthplace of pizza. “I’ve always wanted to open a pizza joint, and I hope this trip inspires us to do it,” Joe Kindred said of the trip. “That is my selfish goal.”
Guests will make their own margherita pizzas in Naples, devour freshly-caught seafood in Positano, sip limoncello in the groves in the surrounding hills, and enjoy views of the Mediterranean as a feast is prepared by Joe with wine pairings by Katy.
In Campania, travelers will take part in a guided tour and tasting of Feudi di San Gregorio, an ancient family-owned establishment, to learn the history and science of winemaking. The trip ends with a Michelin-starred meal in the medieval town of Sant’Agata de’ Goti that draws on the region’s best ingredients and culinary traditions.
This gastronomical adventure is currently sold out, but there is a waiting list if a spot becomes available. Those hoping to get on it will need to call 855-219-8018. —Travis Mullis
