Mariposa, the newest concept from the restaurant group behind Fern, Flavors from the Garden and Something Classic Catering, will open to diners on Friday, Oct. 15. The restaurant replaces Mother Earth Group’s former restaurant in the space, Halcyon, Flavors from the Earth.
Chef Jonathan Moore — who worked at Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen before becoming executive chef at Halcyon — will continue to run the kitchen at Mariposa. On the menu will be global dishes inspired by owner Jill Marcus’ travels, such as smoked trout steamed buns and lamb belly bulgogi lettuce wraps. The beverage program will be run by Brad Grubb.
In a nod to the restaurant’s location in a shared space with the Mint Museum, art will take a larger focus at Mariposa as part of its transformation. The earthy decor of Halcyon has been replaced with a crisp black-and-white color palette accented with gold, tufted sofa seating, and modern lines. Fittingly, the restaurant’s name, Mariposa, translates to butterfly in Spanish.
The restaurant will open for dinner only at first, with brunch and lunch hours to follow.
