Dot Dot Dot celebrates anniversary with rare bourbons, events
The cocktail bar will have been open two years this month
Dot Dot Dot is celebrating its two-year anniversary this week with a serious lineup of events and specials. The opening of the cocktail bar in Park Road Shopping Center’s backlot marked a shift forward in Charlotte’s cocktail culture, and Dot Dot Dot has since built one of the city’s strongest spirits lists.
Stefan Huebner, who owns the bar with Conrad Hunter, says the timing was finally right to open his bar two years ago and he’s been impressed with how the city has embraced high-end cocktails.
“The quality of guest is exponentially better than I ever thought it would be,” he says. “If I get here first and I walk through the front door, I walk in and I’m like, ‘Holy shit, this place is mine.’ It still floors me. It’s the most beautiful bar in the city, and it’s one of the most beautiful bars I’ve ever been in.”
Over the next year, Huebner hopes to bring in more distributors for education events (a Whistle Pig dinner is in the works), guest bartenders, and pop-ups. For now, however, the staff at Dot has a big week of celebrations planned. See the schedule below. —Kristen Wile
Tuesday, July 9: All of the restaurant’s single barrel picks will be $10 for 1.5-ounce pours. Their offerings include seven Elijah Craig picks, two Knob Creek and two Old Forrester selections, a Don Q rum pick, and an El Tesoro tequila.
Wednesday, July 10: Weegee’s Lounge comes to town for a pop-up with Dot Dot Dot. Bartenders from both places will be behind the bar, and the cocktail menu will include both bar’s specialties. There will also be a Polaroid booth, a staple of Weegee’s.
Thursday, July 11: Dot hosts its second annual Don Q Rum Tiki Night. The regular menu will be replaced with a dozen tiki cocktails as steel drum music plays. The backbar will be decorated in a Hawaiian theme, and Huebner promises to wear a sarong.
Friday, July 12: Rare (for North Carolina) bottles that Huebner’s has been holding back will be released on a special menu. Colonel E.H. Taylor, Blanton’s, Stagg Jr., and Kentucky Owl will be among the eight to 10 bottles released for the celebration with pours ranging from $15 to $40.
Saturday, July 13: Saturday afternoon, the Dot Dot Dot hosts an Elijah Craig tasting that includes Dot Dot Dot’s seven barrel picks and food. Seating will be limited to 40 guests, with tickets costing $75.
Sunday, July 14: Dot Dot Dot’s breakeven bottle for the week is Hennessy Imperial Paradis, served for $139 a pour (the bottle retails at around $3,000). Also on special all week long: Boss Hog V: The Spirit of Mauve will be served for $39 a pour.
