Charlotte Wine + Food launches new charity effort
The annual event was meant to take place this week
Charlotte Wine + Food, a local non-profit that has been hosting a wine-focused festival here for 31 years, is now contributing to the ongoing efforts to support the local food industry during these difficult times. Charlotte Wine + Food’s board members have donated $6,000 to provide 300 meals for the four charities it helps to support: GenOne, Mitchell’s Fund, The Learning Collaborative, and the Relatives.
The donated money is being used to buy meals from local restaurants like Dish, Napa on Providence, Noble Smoke, and Sweet Lew’s BBQ. On April 16, the first 20 meals were delivered to GenOne’s young scholars who are struggling with the loss of school lunches. Since then, 25 meals have been provided for healthcare workers at Novant’s Hemby Children’s Hospital on behalf of Mitchell’s Fund. In addition, 10 family meal packs have been provided to families facing food insecurity with children enrolled in The Learning Collaborative, while 35 meals have been provided to The Relatives Youth Crisis Center to help feed young adults facing homelessness.
Charlotte Wine + Food’s annual week-long event was meant to take place this week, but has been postponed until October. The charitable meal program will continue as the current crisis deepens. During the month of April, 100 percent of tax-deductible donations to the organization will go to fund and expand this meal program.
