Charlotte, please welcome Idlewild
Photo preview of the new NoDa bar
Tucked under the apartments at Novel NoDa, Idlewild is bringing composure and restraint to craft cocktail options in Charlotte. Owner Vince Chirico is pushing boundaries with a no-menu bar, encouraging conversation between his bartenders and guests, and between guests and their neighbors. Bartender egos are checked at the door, pretentious cocktails are not an option. There is no smoke and mirrors, just honest, integrity-driven drinks in an environment that calms you down from the day you just had.
The space is slick. Deep blue hues mixed with concrete walls and real oak tables give masculine vibes but are softened with plants and warm amber lighting. Its industrial mid-century. Instagram enthusiasts, this bar is designed for all of your gram-able needs.
The cocktails are clean and smooth. After giving guidelines of preferred spirits and flavor likes and dislikes, drinks arrive at your table tray service style and by candlelight. Your bartender takes their time to explain your drinks; they are there to take care of you. The type of cocktails run the gamut, from classic martinis to fun, unpretentious tiki-style drinks. Shared small bites are available as well, from citrus brined olives to avocado bruschetta and a warm apple bread pudding. There are plenty of options for guests both drink and food.
Idlewild opens to the public today, February 14th. Located at 424 E. 36th Street at Novel NoDa, the bar is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week. The bar operates as a private club; membership is $1. See our earlier interview with Vince and get to know him and what he has planned for Idlewild. —Justin Burke-Samson
