One of the city’s top pastry chefs is holding a bake sale to benefit charity this weekend. Laney Jahkel-Parrish of 300 East will be selling baked goods in front of 300 East on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All of the proceeds will benefit Classroom Central, a local non-profit that works to provide school supplies for children in need.
Items for sale will include chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, sweet potato blondies, and dog treats. Several of the items will be gluten-free or vegan. Desserts will range from $5 to $10. Donations of Classroom Central’s most-needed items are also encouraged, including markers, highlighters, colored pencils, scissors, pencils, composition notebooks, glue sticks, and filler paper.
There also may be some donations for sale from other local pastry chefs, Jahkel-Parrish tells us. Charlotte’s pastry chefs are a generous group; they have organized several charity bake sales in the past year for various causes. —Kristen Wile
