Celebrate Charlotte cuisine this spring

Our StrEATs slate of events features three weeks of culinary fun

by Kristen Wile

The Charlotte StrEATs Festival Tasting Tour will take place Saturday, April 13. Grand Baldwin/UP

Spring is officially here, and with that comes Charlotte SHOUT! and the Charlotte StrEATs Festival, which Unpretentious Palate co-hosts. While I never imagined UP being part of so many incredible events, it seems like a natural extension of what we do in celebrating the city’s restaurant scene.

We’ll be keeping you busy over the next few weeks with lots of incredible events. Today, we’re sharing the full schedule. We hope to see you over the next few weeks! Here’s what we’ve got in store:

Friday, March 29: Healing with Ayurveda Cooking
Chef Roberto Mendoza joins us for a StrEATs Smarts session focused on how to shift your health by cooking with the principals of Ayurveda. SOLD OUT.

Wednesday, April 3: StrEATs Uncorked
Get a taste of North Carolina terroir in a showcase of the state’s best wineries, as well as a sample of regional fare we’re known for, with Hello, Sailor (fish camp), Sweet Lew’s (barbecue), 3rd and Fernwood (meat-and-three), and Johnson and Wales (Appalachian). Get tickets.

Saturday, April 6: Shop like a Chef
Chef Eugene Briggs will guide guests on a shopping expedition around South End Farmers Market before treating guests to a local breakfast made using that day’s produce at Trolley Barn Fermentory. Get tickets.

Tuesday, April 9: The Science of Pasta Making
Taste four distinctly different types of pasta, all paired with from-scratch sauces that are perfectly suited for each pasta type, while noodling details such as how different flours change your dough. SOLD OUT.

Wednesday, April 10: Made to Pair in North Carolina
Across our great state, small winemakers and cheesemakers are earning nationwide recognition for what’s made here. Join Assorted Table and Orrman’s for a wine and cheese pairing sourced from North Carolina. Get tickets.

Celebrate the city’s culinary scene at this free event, featuring a special appearance from award-winning chef, TV personality, author and philanthropist Aarón Sánchez.
