Barrington’s, chef Bruce Moffett’s first restaurant, has launched a tasting menu. The six-course chef’s tasting is available Monday through Thursday, and costs $85 a person. Wine pairings are available for an additional $35.

“It’s something Bruce has always wanted to do, and we have an extra hand in the kitchen now, so we’re able to do a little more prep than we normally would,” says Barrington’s Restaurant’s executive chef, Jason Newman. “We thought that it would be the perfect time to try doing the tasting menu.”

That extra help includes sous chef Leslie Augusta, who is focusing on the dessert program at Barrington’s as well as making breads in-house. Drew Dodd, executive chef of upcoming restaurant N.C. Red, is also temporarily in the kitchen a few days a week until N.C. Red opens.

The six-course tasting must be ordered by the whole table, and includes smaller portions of dishes on the current menu, with the exception of the amuse bouche. Each tasting consists of an amuse bouche, soup, salad, seafood course, meat course, and dessert.

Once customers get used to the idea of the tasting menu, Newman hopes to have a little more fun with it.

“I would like to make it grow a little bit — not more courses, but maybe some more options that aren’t on the menu,” he says.
