A Game of Thrones drinking guide
Dogwood Southern Table’s wine buyer offers character-inspired options
Like what seems to be most of the world, I’ll be eagerly counting down the minutes until the final season of Game of Thrones debuts on HBO this Sunday. We all know the show isn’t short on blood spill and violence, but there’s also plenty of food and drink in the series. We asked Rare Roots Hospitality’s Michelle Clapsaddle what to drink in honor of your favorite (or least-favorite, we’re talking to you, Cersei) characters. —Kristen Wile
Daenerys
Dragon’s Milk, New Holland Brewing
This stout with vanilla and malt notes is fit for the person who nurtured three dragons into adulthood.
Cersei
Green Chartreuse
Cersei went a little crazy with wildfire, blowing up most of her own city. Toast the fallen of Kings Landing with this green liquid that looks just like Cersei’s new favorite weapon.
Jon Snow
Tired and Toothless, Resident Culture Brewing
He must have lost a few teeth in battle, and poor Jon Snow is certainly tired. But Clapsaddle suggests an imperial ale for our beloved bastard, since he is the true heir to the throne.
Bran
Wag the Wolf, Beau’s
Add an R to make this “Warg the Wolf,” and you’ve got the perfect fit for Bran. This wheat beer’s label even features the face of a wolf.
Tyrion
Petite Syrah “Sumo,” Keplinger
This selection by Fin & Fino’s Natatlie Stewart echoes Tyrion’s larger than life personality in a tiny package. It’s a powerful wine that needs a little time to open, just like the youngest Lannister sibling.
