North Carolina gin named nation’s best
It is now up for the world’s best title
A North Carolina gin was named the best navy strength gin in the United States in the World Gin Awards competition. Durham Distillery’s Conniption Navy Strength Gin earned the title earlier this month, making it the second consecutive year the Durham-based distiller has taken home the award.
A panel of industry judges sample and grade gins in various styles, including London dry, flavored, and sloe gins. There is an entry fee to participate. After the first round, a best in each category is named for each country. Those gins will now compete against one another for the title of best in each category worldwide, and the best overall gin in the world. Those winners will be announced on February 27.
Durham Distillery is also the producer of Damn Fine Liqueur, one of the spirits we put on our gift list this past holiday season, and a line of canned craft cocktails. Owned by Melissa and Lee Katrincic, the distillery recently received an investment from Constellation Brands, the parent company of Svedka, Casa Noble, and High West, among other labels.
