Orrman’s is moving to Myers Park
Longtime Uptown cheese shop is relocating after 13 years

After 13 years at The Market at 7th Street (née 7th Street Public Market), Orrman’s Cheese Shop is preparing for a major address change. Husband and wife co-owners Jose Espinosa and Rachel Klebaur will move their gourmet shop to the corner of Selwyn Avenue and Colony Road, next to Sora and across from The Jimmy.
“We had been looking for another location for a little while,” Klebaur says. We wanted to be in a neighborhood area, not too big, not too small. This will be our only location, not a second location. We don’t want to divide our time between two locations running back and forth. We considered running both, but decided to focus on one spot.”
Like the current Uptown location, the new Selwyn Avenue shop will combine retail and bistro elements, similar to the current format but with expanded offerings. While most of it will be dedicated to retail, there will be some dine-in space to seat approximately 25 patrons indoors and on the adjacent patio.
The larger footprint will allow for a significant expansion of the shop’s cheese inventory. Orrman’s currently carries about 100 different cheeses, many of which are limited by space. “Now we’ll have more space to feature special cheeses regularly instead of bringing in a larger selection just around the holidays,” Klebaur says. “We’re always bringing in new cheeses year-round and things we like to feature, but now we’ll just have more space to play around with all of that.”
In addition, the new location will support a broader selection of retail pantry items and, for the first time, wine available for both on-site enjoyment and takeout. Orrman’s will continue its small kitchen operation on Selwyn Avenue, offering a variety of cheese & charcuterie boards, sandwiches, and soups. Klebaur hopes to eventually expand the kitchen offerings, but she wants to get used to her new environment first.
“Every section of Charlotte has different favorites,” she says. “Some things that sell well here might not sell well in the new spot. It’s gonna be fun to play around with bringing new products in and finding new items to feature.”
The shop’s current cheese frequent buyer program will stay in place, plus Klebaur hints at a similar wine buying program. “A lot of this is ‘wait and see,'” she says.

As with all build-outs, the exact timing of the new location opening is dependent on construction, permit, and license variables, but the plan is everything will be ready by the end of March. “Everything’s been going pretty smoothly right now, but you never know,” Klebaur says.
In the meantime, the Orrman’s Cheese Shop will be operating under normal hours on 7th Street. Klebaur anticipates only a minor gap between closing the current location and opening the new one. “We want to move our entire staff from here to there, so we don’t want to be closed for a long period of time. That would be just a financial strain on us,” she says.
Even after the move, Orrman’s will be no stranger to The Market at 7th Street. Orrman’s will still participate in the monthly wine and cheese classes in association with Assorted Table Wine and Shop. “This has been our home for 13 years. It’s a great community,” Klebaur says.
