20-Buck Bottle: This Pinot Noir collaboration could be the future of wine
Bright cherry, balanced tannins, a surprise at this price point
by Anita Skogland
2021 Chemistry Alliance Pinot Noir, California & Oregon
Available at: The Common Market, Oakhurst
Price: $18.99
On the Nose: Cherry, ripe red fruit, a touch of forest floor, light spice notes
On the Palate: Bright red fruit, earth, sweet notes balanced by some structure and integrated tannins
On the Plate: Minestrone, egg and potato casserole, hearty salad with winter greens, pan-sautéed salmon, creamy cheeses
Our Take: A very good weeknight wine, food-friendly, and value pour for pinot noir. There are many good wines between $15 – $20; however, finding a decent pinot noir under $25 is a challenge. This is it.
Fun Facts: Chemistry Alliance is a side project between Stoller Family Estate and Chehalem Winery winemakers. This wine is made from 58% California and 42% Oregon pinot noir juice and bottled in Oregon. The combination of juice from different regions will be more common going forward as we experience more climate challenges in the vineyards.
