    Q&A: Pierogi, best brewery food

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Do you know of any eastern European restaurants in the Charlotte area or in a 20-mile radius of Charlotte? I really would love some homemade pierogies and a couple restaurants that I liked have gone out of business.
Kristen: I would love that, too! There aren’t many places to find them. The Degenerate in NoDa is the only full-service restaurant we know of that has them on the menu. Zygma European Market Pineville sells Alexandra’s Pierogi, made in Chicago. Otherwise, you’re right, they have all gone out of business. Even frozen pierogi maker Southern Pierogi shuttered operations in March 2020. Readers, any others?

Q: I’m a foodie planning a meetup with a fan of beer. Which brewery has the best food?
Kristen: If you’re looking for a full menu, try Legion’s SouthPark location. Resident Culture has great food at both locations, with tacos in South End and The Dumpling lady in residency in Plaza Midwood. Another great option is Southern Strain Brewing in Concord, where chef Michael Bowling runs The Hot Box. Lastly, you could grab some food at one of Camp North End’s food stalls and head to Free Range Brewing.
