Fun Fact: When I lived in Seattle, our group of eight friends went camping in the Willamette Valley for a long weekend; our mission was to visit the pioneers of Oregon winemaking. At that time (1981), the wineries were in the garages or barns of the top seven producers, and the tasting was done in their living rooms! We visited the Letts of Eyrie, Dick Erath, Adelsheim, Amity, Elk Cove, Bill and Susan of Sokol Blosser, and Ponzi. Many of these wineries are still managed by the original families — but the number of producers in Oregon has exploded. Some of the original pioneers still produce my favorite Oregon wines.
