Our take: Portugal makes Vinho Verde from a variety of field grapes. Most of these wines are under $17. Some have a texture that is not quite sparkling but with a hint of effervescence. This wine does not have that aspect. These are low alcohol (10.5%) wines — put a few of these on ice, prep a few simple appetizers, get out on the deck, and enjoy.
Fun fact: Vinho Verde is a region of Portugal as well as a wine style. The region is in the northern part of Portugal, along the Atlantic, where there is a lot of rain. To avoid rot in the vineyards, grapes are not grown on wires at 4 feet high, like most other grapes; instead, they are trained over pergolas to allow for air circulation. This growing method is very picturesque.
