20-Buck Bottle: Medium body red is flexible and delicious
Chinon with balanced minerality
by Anita Skogland
Gourmandise Patrick Lambert Chinon, Loire, France
Available at: Mere’s Curated Gourmet, Dilworth
Price: $24
On The Nose: Bright plum, mineral, raspberry, warm spice, and fresh cracked pepper.
On The Palate: Medium body, juicy notes balanced by acidity and light tannin.
On The Plate: Grilled meats, roasted root vegetables, spaghetti and meatballs, charcuterie.
Our Take: Very well balanced cabernet franc that is food-friendly from a top producer. A light chill on this wine would not diminish its flavor.
Fun Fact: Patrick Lambert took over the vineyards from his grandfather and transformed the property into organic farming. His land in Cravant les Coteaux is near the vineyards of the famed Bernard Beaudry, who influenced Lambert to produce less volume at higher quality levels. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed, which produces a more fruity style of Chinon.
