20-Buck Bottle: Loire rosé to compete with Provence
Crisp cherry notes is a perfect segue from summer to fall
by Anita Skogland
Domaine de L’Ermitage Menetou-Salon Rosé, Loire, France
Available at: winestore, SouthPark
Price: $19.99
On The Nose: Orange zest, Queen Anne cherry, spices
On The Palate: Delicate, fresh, bright, balanced acidity, cherry and blueberry notes
On The Plate: Pair with pasta with artichokes, sautéed salmon, potatoes with lemon, hearty salad with crisp lettuces and hard-boiled egg
Our Take: Delicate salmon color and well-integrated acidity make this wine a delicious pour on a hot summer evening – or with apple pie in the fall
Fun Fact: The Menetou-Salon region is next to Sancerre in the eastern region of the Loire Valley. 90% of the grapes grown are Sauvignon Blanc, with 10% Pinot Noir. This wine is 100% Pinot Noir, producing a delicate rosé style. The winery, founded in 1959, is owned by Laurence and her husband Geraud de La Farge. Laurence is the daughter of the original winemaker and is currently in charge of wine production. Her children, Antoine and Sophie, are in training to take over operations in the near future.
