20-buck bottle: An easy-drinking California cab

A solid Monday night wine while watching football and eating sliders

Wine: 2017 Hahn California Cabernet Sauvignon
    Available at: Most major retailers

    Price: $15 – $16

On the nose: Blueberry, plum, toast, vanilla
On the palate:  Blackberry, smooth tannins, medium+ body, red cherry, clove
On the plate: Pair with tomato-based barbecue, burgers, ribs, or black bean chili

Our take: The grapes for this wine are sourced from various California appellations. Well-balanced and very approachable for wine consumers new to red wine, and a good value for experienced consumers.

Fun fact: The Hahn family has been making wine in the Santa Lucia Highlands since 1979, and are known for their single varietal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The second generation of the family manages their 650 acres. The care they take with their SLH and Lucienne labels is reflected in their entry level products. —Anita Skogland
