20-Buck Bottle: A robust Spanish red

Juicy tempranillo called the ‘Big Boss’

    by Anita Skogland

El Jefe Grande 2021 Tempranillo, Castilla y Leon, Spain

Available at: Rhino Market, Villa Heights
    Price: $15.99/liter

On the Nose: Dark cherry, plum, blueberry, fresh, bright.
On the Palate:  Plum, well integrated tannins, full body, juicy, tobacco, robust.
On the Plate:  Burgers, pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, meatloaf, lasagne.

Our Take: This bottle is a liter size, making this wine a very good selection for a party.

Fun Fact: Tempranillo is the grape used to make rioja and wines from Ribera del Duero. The Castilla y Leon region is warm, so the grapes from here are more intense. This wine is fermented in concrete vats, which contributes to the fresh, bright fruit aromas and flavors.
