20-buck bottle: A liter of deliciousness

A fruity white that exudes sunshine and summer

Santa Julia Torrontés del Mercado 2018

    Availability: Whole Foods
    Price: $14.99 for a liter

On the nose: Crisp, with ripe peach and cantaloupe
On the palate: Pear and orange, a medium acidity — very food oriented
On the plate: The sweet fruit masks the acidity, making this a great wine for spicy food: Thai, Indian, or curry dishes. It will also complement robust salads and full-flavored fish, like salmon or mahi-mahi.

Our take: A great choice for a value wine. It can be used as an aperitif, or served with a meal.

Interesting fact: Torrontés is an indigenous grape to Argentina, likely a clone of two very old Italian grapes. The Zuccardi family, producers of this wine, have been growing Torrontés in Argentina for three generations and are considered one of the best producers of this grape. —Anita Skogland
