20-Buck Bottle: A lemon light Pinot Grigio

Crisp and clean Italian white pairs nicely with light and herbal dishes

by Anita Skogland

2022 Vigneti del Sole Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC, Italy

Available at: The Common Market, Oakwold
Price: $14.99

On the Nose: Basil, lemon, apple, white pepper
On the Palate: Granny Smith apple, lemon zest, light body with refreshing acidity
On the Plate: Tomato and feta salad with fresh herbs; egg drop soup; sushi and sashimi; sauteed flounder; roasted pears.

Our Take: A solid pinot grigio from a top importer, Skurnik. Reasonable price for the quality level.

Fun Facts: Pinot Grigio is grown in cool climate regions of Italy, Austria, and eastern European countries. A clone of pinot grigio grown in Alsace, France, Oregon, and New Zealand are slightly different and are called Pinot Gris. The classic Italian clones usually yield a clean, crisp wine with light body, delicate aromas and flavors. It is a very good wine with a variety of salads.
