Your Mom’s Donuts opening in Park Road Shopping Center

The popular square donuts will be served out of the old key and lock kiosk starting Sept. 12

Your Mom’s Donuts will open in Park Road Shopping Center on Sept. 12. The beloved donut spot started as delivery-only in 2013 before opening a its first brick-and-mortar spot in Matthews the follow year. Owner Courtney Buckley’s creations stand out for her use of local ingredients—many of the flavors are seasonal, inspired by the famers’ market—and the donuts’ signature square shapes.

Her newest shop will replace the small key and lock kiosk in the shopping center, which Buckley says she’s been trying to get into for four years. At 100 square feet, the space is too small to actually bake the donuts, so they’ll be made out of the Matthews location and sold at Park Road. Customers will order from the window and take the donuts to go, enjoying them on a bench or back at home. The opening hours may be tweaked, but Buckley is anticipating opening at 7:30 each morning (closed Sunday) until sold out.

The shop will sell more than a dozen flavors at a time, including the daily mainstays: glazed, milk and dark chocolate ganache, salted caramel, cinnamon sugar, cream cheese frosted, vanilla bean, sprinkles, and lemon honey. The others will be daily specials.

The donut shop won’t be selling beverages, at least to start, and Buckley expects some adjustments will need to be made as she figures out how many donuts need to be made for the new space. The process to make Your Mom’s Donuts takes about three days from start to frying, so adjusting to the correct production level will take some time. Buckley is planning to bring a second batch over during the day, however.

“We can’t just whip up another batch quickly, so it’s a constant guessing game,” Buckley says. Her doughnuts have two overnight resting periods and are made without a proofing oven, which Buckley believes gives the doughnuts a better taste—like a sourdough bread—and texture.

Given its location, Buckley is considering adding evening hours to the Park Road kiosk later on. Our favorite is the cream cheese frosted, and we’ll be eating one (or two) next week. See you there!
