There are many local restaurants offering takeout meals to celebrate Mother’s Day. Whether you are sharing a brunch with eggs as a centerpiece, or prime rib dinner, here are a few ideas for making your mother feel special. —Anita Skogland

Jones von Drehle 2017 Yadkin Valley Viognier
$21, The Loyalist Market, Matthews
This local producer is making award-winning wines with grapes that are suited to our climate. Viognier was one of the first grapes that Thomas Jefferson planted on his estate, and eventually it flourished in Virginia and North Carolina. Aromas of peach and ripe pear, with medium body and light acidity, this would pair well with the array of flavors on a brunch menu.

Leo Hillinger Sparkling Rose of Pinot Noir, Austria
$17.99, Assorted Table Wine Shoppe, Uptown
A beautiful light pink color with frothy white mousse on top when poured, this wine says celebration. It will brighten any meal with its crisp acidity and delicate strawberry notes. A donation goes to the Breast Cancer Foundation of Austria with each bottle sold.

Akakies Kir-Yianni Sparkling Rose of Xinomavro, Greece
$24.99, Foxcroft Wine Co., multiple locations
If you have not tasted a Greek wine, this is a great first sip. The red skinned Xinomavro grape is grown in northern Greece, near Macedonia. It is similar to Nebbiolo, with layered dark red fruit aromas and flavor. This would be perfect with beef or other hearty dishes.

Hooked Riesling 2017, Mosel, Germany
$14.99, Common Market, multiple locations
With delicate flavors of honeysuckle and crisp apple and a light acidity, this would work nicely with seafood, fish, cheeses, and pork.

Louis Latour Montagny Premier Cru ‘La Grande Roche’ 2018 White Burgundy
$29.99, Arthur’s Wine Shop, SouthPark
Aromas of peony and honey, with apricot and plum on the palate, this wine has a lively, medium body, and is food flexible. Sip it alongside asparagus, a cheese plate, roast chicken, or cod.

Sandrone Volmaggiore Nebbiolo d’Alba 2017
$26, Black Chicken Cellar, Matthews
This wine has bright red cherry notes with balanced tannins, light minerality, an earthiness, and cranberry notes. This is a very food friendly wine, and will pair well with spring flavors, risotto, robust fish such as salmon, or roasted proteins.
