What the pros are buying on Prime Day

From pots and pans to floor mats, these are the deals they recommend

It’s Prime Day, that time of year when we log on to Amazon and buy things we don’t really need — but who can pass up such great deals? This GE ice maker is on my wishlist to make shaking up cocktails easier, no water line required. While many chefs we asked said they prefer not to give Amazon any more money, others had a few items they couldn’t say no to. Here’s what professionals are shopping for — and if you haven’t yet, don’t forget to set a charity and shop at smile.amazon.com to send a portion of your purchases to a good cause.

    Rob Clement, chef/owner of Meshugganah

    Cushioned, anti-fatigue floor mat
    $26.39

This two-pack of ergonomic floor mats are cushioned and non-slip. “Between being on my feet for work and home, these mats are a knee saver/life saver,” Clement says.

Also in his cart? A set of play kitchen items for his kids.

Laney Jahkel-Parrish, pastry chef of 300 East

    9 Piece Silicone Spatula Set
    $11.69

This set may be a bit much for your average kitchen, but for those who love to bake, you’ve got every style of spatula you need to make pro-level desserts in this set. “I like the ones that are all one piece; they are easier to clean,” Parrish says of this set.

Oscar Johnson, chef/co-owner of Jimmy Pearls

    Food processor
    $74.99

There are plenty of discounts to be found on small appliances like food processors. Find something to fit any size kitchen, any budget, and a variety of size capabilities. See them all here.

Que Stewart, instructor at Johnson & Wales University

    Tablet and phone overhead stand
    $43.99

As she builds her business centering on virtual cooking instruction, this overhead stand will help Stewart’s live streams look more professional. This chef also has several Le Creuset deals in her cart.

    Alesha Vanata, owner of littleSpoon

    Le Creuset Sauteuse Oven
    $179.95

Le Creuset is a standard-bearer for cookware, and you won’t find this 3.5 quart enameled cast iron for much cheaper. “I have been collecting pieces in Flame for over 20 years,” Vanata says, and gifts a piece to her sister in each Christmas.

Alyssa Wilen, chef/co-owner of Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen

SodaStream Fizzi Sparkling Water Maker Bundle
    $92.99

Along with a system to make sparkling water at home, the owner of popular cooking school Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen has her eyes on a dough proofing kit and Vitamix Immersion Blender.
