Q&A: New eats for the Knights; the best food trucks
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: What can we look forward to eating and drinking at Charlotte Knights games this season?
UP: Well, Sabor Latin Street Grill announced recently that it will be selling food in the ballpark this year! Among their offerings are a Mexican-style corn on the cob, chips and queso, empanadas, tacos, and nachos. Hopefully they’ll have sour cream, which was unavailable from the previous vendor. Sabor will be along the third-base line. As for drinks, Birdsong will be canning its All Knight Long Belgian blonde ale this year, instead of just having it available on tap in the park.
Q: Now that the good weather is here, I’m ready to dive into the food truck scene. Any must-try recommendations?
UP: We’ve got some of those, sure! You’ve got to try The Dumpling Lady if you haven’t yet. The guys behind What The Fries are extremely talented cooks, but when we tried to get to their food truck at a recent Resident Culture Food Truck Friday, they were sold out of nearly everything. That certainly means a lot of folks believe it’s a must-try. I’m not sure if he counts as a food truck, but if you work near Uptown, today is the kind of day I wish I was standing in line for a hot dog from Vic the Chili Man.
Q: I’m a vegan and have trouble ordering off of most menus. If I ask a server for a chefs’ choice of vegan entrée, would that be fun for them or an inconvenience?
UP: I reached out to a few chefs, and the general takeaway was this: if it’s the middle of a busy dinner service, it’s going to be a hassle for the kitchen. You’re essentially asking them to come up with a whole new menu item that uses very specific ingredients. That said, some chefs also said it’s a good creative exercise. My advice is to only ask for this if you’re dining at off-peak hours; kitchens are already hectic enough doing what they know and are prepared for during the dinner rush.
