Q&A: What does the stay-at-home directive mean?
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: What does the recent directive telling people to stay at home mean for restaurants?
Kristen: Nothing, legally. Health director Gibbie Harris announced this week that the county is recommending residents stay at home with the exception of essential trips, including extending remote work and virtual schooling. It doesn’t mandate anything — it’s a strongly worded suggestion, so restaurants don’t need to close their dining rooms, though they are being advised to. The directive is intended to discourage people from going out, so even if restaurants remain open, it will likely lead to even fewer diners.
Q: Any news on a new home for Big Ben Pub? Also, what do you know about Bocado?
Kristen: We don’t have any news yet, but will certainly try and find some more information for you. As for Bocado, the restaurant taking its place, it’s a Georgia-based concept with locations in Atlanta and Alpharetta. It has a small menu that includes burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and salads that emphasizes sourcing. I haven’t tried it in person, however. Readers, anyone been there?
