Q&A: Updates on Meshugganah, Chilito, and Cheats
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: When will Chilito Tacos and Meshugganah be opening their permanent locations?
Kristen: Chilito Tacos, opening in partnership with Resident Culture in their upcoming South End brewery, is still on schedule to open by the end of the year, according to Resident Culture co-owner Amanda McLamb. Meshugganah won’t open on schedule, unfortunately. Read more about that here.

Q: What’s happening with Cheat’s? It looks like nothing has happened in the building.
Kristen: Yes, that’s pretty much true! Cheat’s becoming a brick-and-mortar is still happening, but there have been some permitting delays. The site improvements permit for the Pecan Avenue space was rejected, then plans redesigned and resubmitted. According to co-founder Ryan Hart, they’re expecting a response from the city by the end of the month on whether construction can begin.
Q: What’s the dress code for The UPPYs?
Kristen: For the event at Dressler’s, where we’ll announce our People of the Year on Nov. 15, we suggest cocktail attire. We want to dress up and celebrate!
