Q&A: Thanksgiving for two, our December happy hour
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: I love how many local restaurants are offering Thanksgiving meals where you can buy an entire feast for your family and it’s all taken care of… But what about single people, or those who don’t have a big family celebration? Do you know of anyone offering smaller portions of their Thanksgiving feast? For one or two people? Mostly everything I have seen starts at four people and goes up from there.
Kristen: Yes, a few options! Your best bet is probably Patrick’s Gourmet. The former Aix en Provence owner is serving Thanksgiving meals for $65 per person, and include shrimp cocktail, salad, turkey ballotine with gravy and cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, haricots verts, and pecan or pumpkin pie for dessert. At Yafo Kitchen, you can order their shawarma turkey off the Thanksgiving menu (2 pounds, which is enough for some turkey sandwich leftovers), then add a few regular sides from the Yafo menu to your order. Midwood Smokehouse will sell smoked turkey and spiral ham by the pound, with sides available in quart size.
Q: Is the pick-up event for wine club on Dec. 14 a tasting, too?
Kristen: Not necessarily a tasting, but we’ll be having a happy hour meet-and-greet with selecting sommelier Michael Klinger! Those who purchase an annual wine club membership will also get one free glass of wine while there. Those who purchase a one-time allocation are welcome to purchase a glass at the bar. If you haven’t signed up yet, our first Unpretentious Wine Club offering was a big hit! Bring home some delicious bottles ahead of the holiday season by becoming an Unpretentious Wine Club member today.
Q: Do you have a current list of restaurants that offer half-off wine nights and other specials? Those are great opportunities to support restaurants on slower nights — you get to try new wines and promote them to friends.
Kristen: Sure do! We posted a guide to daily wine specials around town earlier this year, and we try to keep it updated as much as possible.
